What are the differences between orientation and onboarding?

The primary distinction between orientation and onboarding is that orientation comes before onboarding and is only part of the onboarding process.

Orientation is an event that lasts a few days, while onboarding is an ongoing process from the employee's start date until 90 days or even up to 1 year after the employee joined the company.

New joiners often join orientation with a group of newcomers. The objective is to get to know all the company's basic information using a one-way communication method.

In contrast, onboarding should be personalized and customized according to the new hire's specific role using a two-way communication method.
