By now, we have talked endlessly about HR Trends shaped by the pandemic. Needless to say, the pandemic has brought about many unforeseen changes in the workforce, and recruiting habits are no exception. The pandemic and its repercussions have transformed the way many talent acquisition teams work. In the wake of all that has happened over the last two years, here are some notable ways in which recruiting strategies have changed.

Virtual Hiring Is Here to Stay

Perhaps one of the most notable changes in the way hiring is carried out, is the shift to virtual hiring processes. Since the beginning of the pandemic, interviews have primarily been carried out via virtual platforms such as Zoom or Google Meet.

In the same way that a hybrid of remote and in-office work has been normalised, a combination of virtual and in-person interviews is now the norm. For instance, many companies now conduct the first round of interviews virtually. They then move on to in-person interviews at a later stage of the hiring process. Instead of conducting all interviews in-person, it is a new trend for employers to conduct interviews either entirely virtually, or a mix of virtually and in-person.

Increased Focus on Internal Hiring

A study done by SHRM showed that internal mobility has been upped by some 20 percent since the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Many companies have shifted their focus on internal mobility programs due to a variety of reasons. Shorter hiring processes and lower costs are prime reasons that many are looking at internal hiring during the pandemic. Employee retention rates are another huge bonus, and there is data that supports this.

Statistics from LinkedIn also showed that employees stay a whopping 41% longer at companies that hire internally than those that do not. In short, hiring internally benefits not just the organisation, but the employees as well, and has become commonplace during the pandemic.

Diversity & Inclusion

Another hot topic for HR leaders all over the world is the matter of diversity and inclusion. This has directly impacted both the hiring and talent acquisition processes, as HR professionals strive to be more diverse and inclusive. Businesses that are both diverse and inclusive are shown to have higher productivity and profitability levels, as well as a lower turnover rate.

As such, talent acquisition teams are now making it their goal to boost workplace diversity. Recruiters are now focused on bringing in a wider range of talent from different backgrounds, some even remotely from other parts of the world.
